Master of Tourism Image Promotion

In 1988, when most Chinese were not awaken yet to the ideas of travel and tourism, Wang Guoping already directed his first film of city and tourism image promotion called "Taizhou, Hometown of Mei Lanfang." With that work he became a pioneer in tourism image promotion in China. The film marked the start of his incessant search in this fascinating field.
In the early 1990s, prior to the development of Zhouzhuang as a tourist destination, Wang made a film in Zhouzhuang called "Youthful Dreams." The film was shot from both a scenic and an ecological perspective and topped the audience rating list of Shanghai TV. It was presented by the then Chinese Premier Li Peng to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), also known as the Earth Summit, held in Brazil in 1992.
Subsequently, as China's first man to make MV, Wang helped turn many scenic sites and localities in China into popular tourist destinations with his brilliant packaging in a series of MV works:
"I Love the Wuzhi Mountain, I Love the Wanquan River," with Li Shuangjiang as singer, luminously depicted the beauty of the Hainan Island.
"To See Jasmine Again," sung by Zhou Yanhong, was a vivid portrayal of the river-laced town of Shaoxing.
"Folks of My Home Village," sung by Lu Xiemei, revealed the mystical beauty of the memorial archways of Shexian County in Anhui.
"There's Only One China on Earth," sung by Wei Wei, charmingly illustrated the city of Dunhuang and the Jiayuguan Pass on the famous Silk Road.
"Love under Heaven," sung by Yang Yang, was a beautiful display of the Tianchi Lake in Xinjiang.
In the late 1990s, when travel abroad was yet to become popular among the Chinese, Wang Guoping again became a leader of image promotion for international tourism. He was the first from China to shoot scenic films in the U.S. and to introduce New York and Hawaii to Chinese viewers. His ten-episode documentary on the lifestyles of Europe, "Open the Door of the Coffee House," won him enormous public acclaim.
In 2002, Wang created the concept of "image communication." Building on the aesthetic principles he acquired through his experience in MV production, he made more conscious moves in the area of tourism image promotion. A series of his new works markedly enhanced the images of the localities he filmed in the eyes of the Chinese audience:
"Looking for a Wonderland," a film on the Hui-style dwelling houses, won a gold award for scenic films at a contest among 100 municipal TV stations in China.
"Songjiang - International Garden City," an image promotion film for Songjiang, Shanghai, won a gold medal at the international competition for the Most Liveable Communities in 2005.
Wang also made tourism promotion films "Australia, Nature's Wonder," and "Into the Bavarian Kingdom," at the invitations of the Australian and German tourism boards.
"The Magnificent Tai Hu Lake" was an MV of the city song of Wuxi.
"The Ancient Town of Zhujiajiao" was a MV of the song of Zhujiajiao, Shanghai, with the calligraphy of the song's title written by Jiang Zemin, former President of China.
"Hangzhou, Leisure Capital of the East," was a film offered to the 2006 Hangzhou World Leisure Exposition.
"Wondrous Days" was a tourism promotion film for Shanghai, whereas "Shanghai Colors" was a film dedicated to the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
Wang Guoping's pioneering explorations in the realm of tourism image promotion has won him a unique position in this profession. He has been elected one of China's "Top Hundred Television Artists" and one of China's "Top Hundred Youths in the fields of Art and Literature." His creative talents always move him to carry his legend as "Magic Painter with the TV Medium" to a newer and higher level of achievement.
